The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that kids first visit the dentist by the earlier of 1) their first birthday or 2) six months after eruption of their first tooth. This may seem early, but an initial dental exam at this age offers a crucial opportunity to assess the development of a baby’s gums, first teeth, and jawbone and get valuable guidance on issues like teething and thumb-sucking.
When Should Regular Dental Visits Begin?
After this first visit, outside of emergencies, your child doesn’t need to see the dentist again until age 3 or 4. According to the American Dental Association, young children are susceptible to cavities as soon as they begin to develop teeth. Over a third of kids between the ages of 2 and 5 develop cavities in their baby teeth, which can cause difficulties with biting, chewing, and speaking.
By scheduling these early dental appointments for your child, you can help ensure they receive the preventive care they need to avoid early cavities and start developing strong, healthy smiles that last a lifetime.

Losing a dental crown can be concerning, but remaining calm and following the appropriate steps can help safeguard your tooth until you visit your dentist. Here’s what you should do:
- Find the crown — Retrieve the crown and store it safely in case your dentist can reattach it.
- Inspect the tooth — Check the exposed tooth for any sharp edges or discomfort. Avoid touching the area too much to prevent further damage.
- Clean the crown and tooth — Gently rinse the crown with warm water, and if the tooth isn’t painful, rinse with salt water to clean your mouth.
- Find an appropriate short-term fix — If you can’t see a dentist immediately, apply over-the-counter dental cement—do NOT use glue or other household adhesives—to temporarily secure the crown.
- Eat mindfully — Stick to soft foods and avoid chewing on the affected part of the mouth to prevent additional damage.
- Schedule a dental appointment — Call your dentist as soon as possible to arrange to have the crown reattached or replaced.

You’ve dreamed of a straighter smile, but maybe what’s held you back isn’t the how; it’s the how long. At Leaf Dental, we get it. You want results, but you also want your journey to feel manageable, personal, and worth it. The truth? Invisalign® treatment can be faster and more comfortable than you think.
So, how long will your clear aligner therapy take?
How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?
Invisalign treatment time ranges from several months to up to two years depending on several factors, including:
- Misalignment severity — If you have a mild case of crowding, your treatment time may be shorter. More severe cases with an overbite or underbite may take longer.
- Patient compliance — If you wear your aligners for the prescribed 20-22 hours each day, you can expect the best possible results. However, if you skip wear time, your treatment could take longer.
- Patient age — Younger patients may get faster results since their teeth can move more quickly.
